UN Security Council Resolutions: Women, Peace + Security

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 was passed unanimously on 31, October 2000. This Resolution (S/RES/1325) is the first ever passed by the Security Council that specifically addresses the impact of war on women, and women's contributions to conflict resolution and sustainable peace. In the following years, subsequent resolutions 1820, 1888, 1889 and 1960 were generated to augment 1325.

Please click on the section to the left for descriptions of appropriate SC Resolutions.  We are hoping that forthcoming resolutions on Women, Peace and Security can be catalyzed by survivors themselves. The 10th year anniversary of the launch of UNSCR 1325 was celebrated last year in October.  Civil sector participants globally, however, have largely questionnned the efficacy or intention of the resolution itself in stancing GBV.
